Midwives in Modesto, CA

Black and white photo where mom holds new baby and looks down at him with love in her eyes

Hey there! If you are here, you are probably curious about alternative pregnancy providers in the Modesto area. Midwives are a fantastic option for anyone who is giving birth. A certified midwife is medically-trained and capable of administering medications, emergency care, and basically can do just about everything an OBGYN can do, but their primary focus is pregnancy, birth, and postpartum care, and they are not surgically trained (and therefore they do not provide C-Sections, but they DO know what to do in emergencies and will refer you immediately to an emergency OBGYN if it seems you may need one.). Midwives can also deliver babies outside of the hospital setting, so if you are looking into giving birth either at home or in a birthing center, you will most likely hire a midwife to support you. So, without further adieu, let me share the list of Midwives in Modesto, CA.

  1. Big Valley Midwives | 509 13th St suite 2, Modesto, CA 95354

Big Valley Midwives is a group of certified midwives based in Modesto, California, and they focus on home-births. They may be a good fit for you If you are looking to birth at home, not in a birthing center. They have a 5-star rating on Google, and are very attentive to their clients. You can read about birthing stories on their website, which is great as you are trying to decide what direction you would like to go in. They have a lot of great information and education to provide, and you can set up a meeting with one of them to ask any questions you may have.

2. Modesto Natural Birth Place | 1608 Sunrise Ave A, Modesto, CA 95350

Modesto Natural Birth Place, also known as Homestead Natural Birth Place, is a birthing center located over on Sunrise Avenue, and have some great reviews, as they have been 100% recommended by all of their clients who have left a review. They do not have a website currently, but you can reach them through their facebook page, and are responsive to messages. If you aren’t quite sure about doing your birth at home, but know you do NOT want to birth in a hospital, this beautiful, cozy location is a perfect middle-ground. It feels like home inside, and you will have access to medical care as needed, and if you are lower-risk, its a fantastic option. I love birth centers because you can give birth without having to worry about making a mess in your own home, ha! Plus, you have staff there that are trained to handle any birth emergency that may arise (and you will be transferred to hospital if need-be.)

3. Bay Midwives

Charlee is a friendly and responsive midwife who will travel to Tracy, Lathrop, Mountain House and some other areas in San Joaquin county on a case-by-case basis. While she is a solo midwife, she always brings a 2nd midwife with her to the birth. She stated that while she does not directly accept insurance, she is an out-of-network provider, which means that most people who have a PPO plan can get some form of reimbursement if they’re out of network deductible is not extremely high. She does have a biller who will work with her clients when it comes to figuring out what their insurance can and cannot cover.

4. The Bay Area Homebirth Collective

This is a group of midwives who serve a variety of areas. They are all listed on the website, and they all have their own private practices, so feel free to check them all out and reach out to someone who looks like you may feel comfortable with.

Besides these specific options, some hospitals employ midwives. Sutter has a midwives hospital over in Sacramento, so if you have Sutter insurance, that is a great option for you! (And as long as you know the impending signs of labor, since this is quite the drive!). Feel free to ask your OBGYN if they know whether or not your insurance or hospital offers the option to choose a midwife over an OB.

However you choose to birth your baby, you should feel comfortable. Do all the research you can, and make the choice that YOU feel is best, so that you can enter your labor with confidence. And if you know you are looking for a midwives in Modesto, CA, I hope this list has been helpful for you!
